Psalm 150
So, a little while ago when I was reading my Bible I ran into this text from Ephesians 5:
When you meet together, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, as you praise the Lord with all your heart.
And, well, since you all know how much I love music and singing - this really spoke to me. I mean, the way to praise God with all your heart is through singing. And the cool thing is that the Bible also offers songs to sing. I am sure that everyone has heard of the book of Psalms. This amazing book is written by David, one of the world’s most amazing songwriters.
And David uses these Psalms for many purposes - sometimes he writes down his doubts and questions, his need for help or his anger. But David also wrote his Psalms to praise God. One of the most amazing ones is, of course, Psalm 150:
Praise the Lord, praise God in his sanctuary!
Praise Him in his heavens for his acts of power,
praise Him for his mighty acts!
Praise Him according to his excellent greatness!
Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet!
Praise Him with harp and lyre!
Praise Him with tambourine and dancing!
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flute!
Praise Him with loud cymbals!
Praise Him with resounding cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord
Praise the Lord!
And this Psalm is só good. As you see, each line starts with Praise Him. And I believe that that is the reason why we are here. We are designed to praise Him! And then David gives us all these ways of praising God. So it’s as if David wants to say that everyone can praise Him, there are só many ways to give Him praise!
I think that the last lines are very impressive. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Man, I wish we were at that day already! Imagine everyone in the world praising God in their own way - what an amazing symphony that would be. The perfect choir, the most beautiful orchestra ever seen. People who would sing, people who would dance, people who would speak of God, people who would paint God’s creation, people who would play all those instruments mentioned above. I just can’t wait for heaven!
And I want to be a part of that. I want to praise the Lord, and I can do that in my own way. I want to use the gifts God gave me, and give them back to Him. I’d suggest you’d do the same.
